State, National Educational Leadership Authorities Coming to A&M International Conference

Some of the State's and nation's leading authorities on educational leadership will take part in a first-ever conference on educational leadership at Texas A&M International University April 28-29.

Hosted by the University's College of Education, "School Leadership: Embracing the Challenge," will offer local and regional educators, principals and members of school boards ample opportunity to gain insight on issues affecting educational leadership.

The Conference begins Friday, April 28 with registration from 4-6 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library. Two sessions will follow from 6-8 p.m.

Early registration ends April 15. Thereafter, registration fees, payable at the door, will be $85. Student registration fees will be $60.

Among presenters scheduled are Sally Cain, US Secretary of Education, Regional Representative ; Jim Walsh, attorney with Walsh, Anderson, Brown, Schulze and Aldreidge of Austin; Dr. Ronald D. Stephens, Executive Director of the National School Safety Center; Mark Gonzalez and John Weil of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and Dr. John Hoyle of Texas A&M University Professor of Educational Administration.

Topics to be explored include "Grants and Partnerships in Education," "Legal Implications on Educational Practices in Special Education, " "Safe Schools," "Principal Assessment and Evaluation," "Exemplary Practices of Exemplary Schools" and "Educational Leadership: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow."
