A&M International Chorale Presents Spring Concert Sunday
An impressive program of beloved choral standards will be presented by the Texas A&M International University Chorale's Spring Concert scheduled Sunday, April 30 at 5 p.m. in Christ Church Episcopal's Sanctuary, 2320 Lane Street.
Admission is free of charge and open to the public.
This presentation is the first full-length concert by the A&M International Chorale under the direction of assistant professor of music Fritz Gechter. Gechter said the group has assembled a varied program.
"We're excited about this performance and will be presenting a diverse program including a setting of the motet, "Ave Maria" by Tomas Luis da Vittoria, two English madrigals by Thomas Morley, a late work by Joseph Haydn, and two traditional American spirituals. We'll also be presenting some dynamic solo performances by students who will be singing both Broadway and Art songs," said director Fritz Gechter.
The Program includes: John Leavitt's "Festival Sanctus," Tomas Luis da Vittoria's "Ave Maria," Cesar Franck's "Panis Angelicus," Thomas Morley's "April is in My Mistress' Face" and "Now is the Month of Maying" and Franz Joseph Haydn's "This Old Man."
Also scheduled are Victor Herbert's " 'Neath the Southern Moon, Lerner and Lowe's "I Could Have Danced All Night," Rogers and Hammerstein's "Edelweiss," Roger Quilter's "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" and Bricusse and Wildhorn's "In His Eyes" from Jekyll and Hyde.
The afternoon performance will close with a series of traditional spirituals including "Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley," and "Ride On, King Jesus."
The A&M International Chorale is one of over 40 student clubs and organizations at the University. Members include students and members of the community-at-large.
Sopranos are Vanessa Heath, Jacqueline Pena, Gabriella Puente, Sara Rodriguez and Claudia Villarreal.
Altos include Sandra Alardin, Erika Espinoza and Josie Molina.
Tenors are John Everett and Vicente Zuno.
Baritones include Shawn Clinger, Mike Herrera IV, Jerardo Pena, Juan Pena and Matthew Trevino.
