A&M International Gets High Ranking by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education
Texas A&M International University has been ranked in the Top 100 of the nation's universities and colleges that graduate the largest numbers of Hispanics by the magazine Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education.
The May issue of Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education ranks A&M International 46th in the nation in its granting of Bachelor's degrees and 35th in the nation in its awarding of Masters degrees.
The ranking also indicates A&M International is ninth in the State of Texas in the graduation of Hispanics with a baccalaureate degree, ahead of such institutions as Texas Tech University, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, University of Texas-Arlington, Our Lady of the Lake University and University of the Incarnate Word.
A&M International is also seventh in the State of Texas in the graduation of Hispanics with a masters degree, ahead of University of Houston, St. Mary's University, South West Texas State University, Texas A&M University and the University of the Incarnate Word.
Dr. Charles Jennett, A&M International president, said the ranking confirms the University's leading role in higher education locally, regionally and nationally.

We've assembled the most gifted faculty, have built the finest facilities possible and have developed programs that address the needs of South Texas and beyond. We consider this ranking a ringing affirmation of our partnership in making dreams real," Dr. Jennett said.
He noted that the ranking comes as the University readies to initiate its 30th anniversary in September.
"For nearly 30 years, this University has enabled over 8000 graduates here and around the world to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their families. As we ready to celebrate our 30th Anniversary, we look forward to continuing a strong and lasting legacy of giving and learning," he said.
The report, based on 1997-98 data and a 96 percent response rate, indicates that degrees earned by Hispanics are up in every category over the previous year. Bachelor's degrees are up 3.1 percent, master's up 5.4 percent and doctorates up 5.9 percent.
Total Hispanic graduates nationwide for the survey period numbered 48,668.
