A&M International Students Get New CCA-Laredo Chapter Scholarships

Texas A&M International University biology students Aurora Rosillo, senior, and Joachim Samano, junior, now enjoy scholarship support from a local advocacy group for the coastal area's environmental concerns.

The two are recipients of the Coastal Conservation Association-Laredo Chapter Scholarship, which supports students planning to pursue study in the natural sciences.

The CCA-Laredo Chapter Scholarship Fund was recently created at A&M International with a gift of $1,000.

A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett said the CCA-Laredo Chapter Scholarship provides an added spring board for students wishing to major in an academic area that touches virtually every aspect of human life.

"The natural sciences encompass studies in areas where challenging work is performed daily to improve the quality of our lives and that of our future generations. It is a pleasure to see our students taking an active role in pursuing an education in such a field and there is no better way to further encourage their enthusiasm than by providing them with a scholarship that rewards their academic determination," Dr. Jennett said.

Jennett said A&M International is fortunate to be able to count on CCA-Laredo Chapter as an educational partner.

"We thank the Coastal Conservation Association-Laredo Chapter for its vision and initiative and we would like to invite others to join this Association in working with A&M International to ensure students' success," Jennett said.

Hugo Flores, CCA-Laredo Chapter president, said the Association is proud to provide much-needed scholarship support to A&M International.

"These students at A&M International represent the future face of our community. We feel honored to be able to participate in the encouragement of these students and look forward to empowering new, bright and competitive professionals," Flores said.

Students interested in the CCA-Laredo Chapter Scholarship must meet all entrance requirements for A&M International and have a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They must be majoring or planning to major in the natural sciences and demonstrate evidence of financial need. The scholarship is renewable provided recipients continue to meet criteria.
