University Names 24 New Faculty Members for Fall 2000 Semester

In Texas A&M International University's continued commitment to bringing the most gifted faculty to lead its 53 undergraduate or graduate programs, A&M International is proud to announce new members of the University faculty.

University provost and vice president for academic affairs Dr. Ray Keck said the University has conducted exhaustive national searches in its faculty hiring.

"We are committed to hiring gifted faculty with a commitment to our students and a shared vision for their success. Our searches have spanned the country and we are honored to number 24 new faculty among our community of scholars," Dr. Keck said.

Unless otherwise noted, faculty members begin their duties this Fall.

College of Arts and Humanities:

Dr. Marian Angela Aguilar, Assistant Professor of Sociology. Dr. Aguilar holds her Ph.D. in Medical Social Work and the Sociology of Medicine from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her Masters of Social Work was earned at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in San Antonio, as was her Bachelors of Social Work.

Prior to joining the University, she was a member of the School of Social Work faculty at the University of Texas at Austin. She has also held faculty posts at OLLU and the University of Illinois. She will direct the University's new BSW program that begins this Fall.

Dr. Rebecca Angle, Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology. Dr. Angle holds her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Houston. Her Master of Arts in Psychology was earned at UH-Clear Lake and her Bachelor of Fine Arts was received at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Prior to joining the University, Dr. Angle was an educational consultant and psychotherapist in private practice. She has also held faculty posts at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas and the University of Houston.

John W. Campbell, Visiting Instructor of Communication. Campbell is currently completing his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Ohio University with a primary focus on International Telecommunications. He also holds an M.A. in Journalism from Ohio State University and a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Prior to joining the University, he was a member of the School of Communication faculty at Northern Arizona University. He has also held faculty posts at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

Dr. Dean J. Champion, Professor of Criminal Justice. Dr. Champion holds his Ph.D. In Sociology from Purdue University and both Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University in Utah.

Prior to joining the University, he was a member of the faculty at Minot State University in Minot, ND. He has also held faculty posts at Cal State University-Long Beach, CA and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Jennifer L. Cahill Clark, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. Clark is currently completing her doctorate at the University of North Texas. She holds her Master of Arts in Music Performance from Texas Christian University and her Bachelor of Music, also in Music Performance, from the University of North Texas.

Prior to joining the University, she was a member of the music faculty at Laredo Community College. Additional teaching posts have included Texas Christian University and private viola and violin instruction.

Dr. Rachel Yvonne Cruz, Assistant Professor of Music. Dr. Cruz earned her doctorate in musical arts, applied voice, at the University of Texas at Austin. Her Master of Music, applied voice, was earned at UT-Austin. Her Bachelor of Arts in Music was earned at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana.

Prior to joining the University, she was a member of the music faculty for the Fulmore Middle School of Austin. Additional teaching posts have included UT-Austin and St. Edward's University.

Nicki Berry Cone, Visiting Instructor of English. Cone earned her M.A. in English at Texas A&M International University. Her BA in English was also earned at A&M International. Prior to joining the University she was a teacher at Laredo Independent School District's Cigarroa Middle School and director of the CEI reading improvement lab.

Denise A. Longoria, Instructor of Psychology/Sociology. Longoria holds her Master of Science in Social Work with a concentration in Child and Family Services from the University of Texas at Austin. A licensed Master Social Worker and Advanced Clinical Practitioner, she holds her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, also from UT-Austin.

Prior to joining the University, she was in private practice as a clinician and geriatric consultant. She has also worked as a victim counselor, family therapist and community social worker.

Maria Dolores Perez, Visiting Instructor of Spanish. Perez holds her Diploma in Translation (English, Spanish, German, French and Italian) from the Dolmetscherschule in Zurich. Her MA in Spanish was earned at Texas A&M International University. She has worked as a foreign language teacher in public school settings in California, Arizona and most recently was part of A&M International's International Language Institute.

Dr. Margaret Pittman-Munke, Assistant Professor of Sociology. Dr. Pittman-Munke holds her Ph.D. in Organizational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. Her Master of Social Work is from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU), as is her Masters of Education in Counseling. She also holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy from Hollins College in Hollins, Virginia.

Prior to joining the University, she was a member of the faculty at Southeast Louisiana University in Hammond, La. She has also held faculty posts at Tulane University in New Orleans, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. and OLLU.

Dr. Robert Welsh, Visiting Assistant Professor of English. Dr. Welsh holds his Ph.D. in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His MA and BA in English were earned at Eastern Illinois University at Charleston.

Prior to joining the University, he was a faculty member at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. Other faculty posts have included Saint Louis University, Maryville University and Fontbonne College, all in St. Louis, Missouri, and New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.

College of Business Administration:

Dr. Gregory S. Black - Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing. Dr. Black holds his Ph.D. in Marketing from Washington State University. Both his M.B.A. and B.A. in International Relations and Korean language were earned at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. Prior to joining the A&M International faculty, he was a faculty member in Southern Utah University's Department of Business.

Dr. Jorge Omar R. Brusa, Assistant Professor of Finance. Dr. Brusa holds his Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He earned his M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In addition, he holds a doctoral degree in business administration from the Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and a B.A. in Accounting from the Universidad del Litoral in Santa Fe, Argentina. Prior to joining the University, Brusa was a faculty member at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Dr. Gary Miller - Professor of Accountancy. Dr. Miller holds his Ph.D. in Business from the University of Santa Clara. Both his M.B.A. and B.A. in Biological Sciences were earned at California State University, Chico, California. Prior to joining the University, Miller was a faculty member at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Van V. Miller - Associate Professor of International Business. Dr. Miller holds his Ph.D. in International Business with an emphasis on Latin America from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his M.A. in Latin American

Studies, also from the University of New Mexico. In addition, he holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in Organizational Behavior from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri and a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Prior to joining the University, he was a faculty member at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Other faculty posts have included the Universidad de la Americas in Costa Rica and Miami University of Ohio.

Dr. William Arthur Newman - Radcliffe Killam Distinguished Professor of Information Systems. Dr. Newman holds his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Accountancy from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. Both his M.B.A. and B.S. in Business Administration were earned from the University of Nevada-Reno. Prior to joining the University, Newman was a faculty member at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Dr. Dev Prasad - Associate Professor of Finance. Dr. Prasad holds both a Ph.D. in Finance and M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Prasad also holds a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. Prior to joining the University, Dr. Prasad worked for Prudential's Financial Services Division and DP International's Financial Services Division.

Dr. Kannan Raghunandan - Radcliffe Killam Distinguished Professor of Accounting. Dr. Raghunandan holds his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Iowa and an M.B.A. (PGDM) from the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta. In addition, Dr. Raghunandan holds a B.E. with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras, India. Prior to joining the University, Dr. Raghunandan was a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Dr. Dasaratha V. Rama - Professor of Information Systems. Dr. Rama holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Iowa and a B.Tech. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, India. In addition, Dr. Rama is a certified management accountant. Prior to joining the University, she was a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Dr. Wayne A. Label, CPA, will join the faculty in the Spring of 2001 as Director of the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade. Dr. Label holds both his Ph.D. and M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining the University, he was a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

College of Education:

Dr. Barbara Greybeck, Associate Professor of Education. Dr. Greybeck holds her Ph.D. in Education, Language and Literacy from the University of California, Berkeley. Her Master of Science in School Psychology was earned at Ohio University, Athens as was her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Prior the joining the University, she was a member of the Department of Educational Studies faculty at the University of Guadalajara at Jalisco. She has also held faculty posts at the ITESM Campus Guadalajara, UC-Berkeley, Chabot Community College and Alameda Community College, both in California.

Dr. W. Fred Ivy, Associate Professor of Education. Dr. Ivy holds his doctorate in Education in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. His Master of Education was earned at Texas Tech University as was his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He has undertaken post-doctoral study in law and finance at Eastern New Mexico University.

Prior to joining the University, he served on the faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX, Wayland Baptist University (Plainview, Amarillo and Lubbock campuses), Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and Valdosta State College in Valdosta, Georgia.

College of Science and Technology:

Dr. Doris J. Rosenow, CCRN, CNS, Associate Professor of Nursing. Dr. Rosenow holds her Ph.D. in Adult Health Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. Her MSN was earned at the UT Health Sciences Center-San Antonio. She also holds a BA in Psychology and a BSN in Nursing from the University of the Incarnate Word.

Prior to joining the University, Dr. Rosenow was an associate professor at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She has also held faculty posts at UT Medical Branch-Galveston, the University of the Incarnate Word and Texas Tech University-Permian Basin.

Dr. Francisco Alonso Leal, M.D., F.A.C.C.,Visiting Assistant Professor, Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing. Dr. Leal holds his M.D. from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston and a Fellowship in Cardiology, also at UTMB-Galveston. He also holds a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of Texas-Austin.

Dr. Leal has certifications in both Cardiology and Internal Medicine and has most recently been in private practice in Laredo in internal medicine-cardiology.
