Three Texas A&M International University students will have a special charge at Saturday's Teachers Rally, expected to attract 2,300 educators.

Fall 2000 College of Education interns Susanna Hinojosa, Danny Silva and Kristine Villarreal will present a special Educator's Oath they have written as part of an Inspirational Messages program that features the thoughts of past, present and future educators.

Teresa Hein, event coordinator, said the students volunteered to present their perspective as future teachers, crafting an Educator's Oath to be shared with Rally participants and dedicated to future educators.

"They wanted to complete our presentation of inspirational messages from past and present educators by taking us all into the future and their chosen profession. I'm very impressed with the oath they have created and believe those attending the Rally will also be quite moved.," Hein said.

The Oath, in its entirety, follows:

"Educator's Oath

Love + Power + Freedom = Fun

As an educator...........

I will instill a love for our profession.

I will instill an unconditional love for all students.

I will instill a love for learning in the student and in myself as I grow professionally.

I will promote the power to be self-directed.

I will promote the power to encourage, respect, and value individuality.

I will promote the power to succeed.

I will nurture the freedom to make choices in an environment conducive to earning.

I will nurture the freedom to take risks and encourage critical thinking.

I will nurture the freedom to develop problem-solvers.

Yes!! With love, power, and freedom I can create a fun and positive learning environment.

Yes!! There will be challenges and bumps in the road, but I will remind myself of the passion for my profession and remember, "SI SE PUEDE"...."I CAN DO IT".

Yes!! I am proud to be an educator of the new millennium promoting our profession, our commitment and our pride."

Also contributing to the Messages presentation are Vidal Trevino, consultant for the D. D. Hachar Charitable Trust, and Roberto Hein, field agent for the Region One Education Service Center.

The morning event is hosted by A&M International's College of Education and The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents Initiative for Texas Public Schools.
