The city's longest Celebration can now be shared anywhere in the world with just a point and a click on a desktop computer.

News of Texas A&M International University's 30th Anniversary Celebration, "Dreams to Reality," is now available on the Internet at the University's home page, www.tamiu.edu.

President Charles Jennett said visitors to the site will be able to join in the University's year-long Celebration of its service to higher education in South Texas.

"Visitors to the site can read about our Celebration and the University's history, can check an updated calendar for events throughout the Celebration year, and even have an opportunity to share their thoughts on an electronic anniversary card," Dr. Jennett said.

The site is proving popular with local visitors as well as the University's 8,200 graduates around the world, he noted.

The 30th Anniversary kicked off last week with a successful Gala at the Laredo Country Club featuring the Glenn Miller Band and the Jerry Quintero Ensemble. Proceeds benefitted the University's Scholarship Fund and co-host the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra's Program Fund.

Other events scheduled throughout the year include The A. R. Sanchez Distinguished Lecture Series, the presentation of a historical exhibit at the Laredo Center for the Arts October 5, the University's Dusty Fun Run and Walk, a special Washington's Birthday Celebration Association Pops Concert, a day-long Fiesta de Mariachi, various student concerts, and the 6th Annual Dusty Golf Tournament. Additional events will be added throughout the year, including a closing 30th Anniversary Picnic scheduled in August, 2001.
