A&M International to Host Cross Country Invitational Sat., Sept. 16

Middle and high school athletes from Laredo and the surrounding area are invited to compete in the Texas A&M International University 2000 Cross Country Invitational.

The Invitational will be held at A&M International's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard, on Saturday, Sept. 16. Races are scheduled every half hour from 9 - 11:30 a.m. An award ceremony will follow the final race.

Entry fee is $50 per team or $10 per individual athlete. Entry forms may be obtained by contacting University Police Sergeant Jaime Rios at (956) 326-2102 or by email at jrios@tamiu.edu.

Athletes may compete in the following divisions: Varsity Boys; Varsity Girls; Junior Varsity Boys; Junior Varsity Girls; Freshmen Boys; Freshmen Girls; Middle School Boys; and Middle School Girls.

Races for Varsity Boys and Junior Varsity Boys are 3 miles. All other races are 2 miles. Both the 3-mile and 2-mile race courses feature a variety of terrain including asphalt, dirt, grass, and some hills.

Team champion and runner-up for all divisions will be awarded plaques with medals awarded to the top 10 runners in each division.

The Texas A&M International University 2000 Cross Country Invitational is sponsored by the University Police Department and benefits the A&M International Explorer Post, an organization comprised of young men and women age 15 - 21 interested in law enforcement and community service.
