A&M International Students Will "Chalk It Up for Art" Oct. 30 - Nov. 2

Texas A&M International University will be transformed Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 as the University's art students recreate artistic masterpieces on the campus sidewalks.

The four-day project, called "Chalk It Up for Art," will be rendered in chalk on the sidewalks of the plaza located between the University's Canseco Hall and Pellegrino Hall. The public is cordially invited to visit the campus and watch the student artists as they complete the master works of art.

Event organizer Janet Krueger, assistant professor of art at A&M International, said the chalk-dust will fly during the four-day project as her students work diligently both throughout the day and into the evening.

"Current and former students from my Painting, Printmaking and Figure Drawing classes will recreate works of contemporary and past artists including, Raphael, Renoir, Duchamp, Bonheur, Bougereau, Goya, Klimt, Burnes-Jones and others. The project was first held last year and because it was so well received, we scheduled it again this year. It is a wonderful display of the students' talents plus the community can see works of art that could otherwise be seen only at major museums or in books," said Krueger.

The University's art program is growing. A Fine and Performing Arts Center is part of the $49.5 million Phase III of the University. A Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Center is scheduled for Dec. 12.
