Five Texas A&M International University students recently traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to participate in this Fall's 22nd Annual National Leadership Conference on Student Government. The A&M International Students joined campus leaders from around the nation to help maximize their leadership skills.

The Conference was designed specifically for committed student leaders and their advisors from two-and four-year colleges and universities. Attendance was limited to only a handful of students throughout the nation. Only a special group of selected University students could attend.

"I feel very fortunate to have gone," stated Aladdin Hall, an A&M International student and member of the University's Student Government Association (SGA). "This trip served as a learning experience that allowed me to meet people from all across the United States, and at the same time I learned more about the responsibilities of student government."

The other A&M International students who attended the conference were Aurora Dominguez, Karla Garza, Margarita Hernandez, and Maria Garcia. The students were accompanied by David VerMilyea, director of Student Development.

The students were encouraged to take active leadership roles upon returning to their respective campuses and communities.

"The Conference gave me the confidence to understand that anyone can make a difference in student life if he or she chooses to take a lead,"added Hall, "I learned that I need to improve the way I communicate with the students I represent."

The Conference addressed the needs of the private and public institutions on topics such as ethical decision making, assertiveness, motivation, communications skill development, multicultural student issues, and more.
