Broadway will come to Laredo as Texas A&M International University presents a Fall Dance Concert Friday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. at the University's Kinesiology/Convocation Building.

Themed "The Best of Broadway and Zarzuela," the concert will feature jazz, ballet, Can Can, modern, and tap dances by the University's Dance Performance Troupe and Classical Spanish Ballet.

Additional performances will be provided by the Vidal M. Treviño Magnet School Dancers, singers Kathy Proffitt and Peggy Dietrick, and pianist Fritz Gechter, assistant professor of music at A&M International.

Concert director Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance at A&M International, said the program promises to be an enchanted extravaganza.

"We'll perform some of the greatest selections from Broadway and Zarzuela, which is Spain's equivalent to the 'Great White Way.' Broadway favorites include selections from Fiddler on the Roof, Cats, West Side Story, and Grease. Zarzuela favorites include 'La Leyenda Del Beso,' 'La Vida Breve,' and the rhumba 'Maruja Limon' " said Leyendecker.

Admission to the Fall Dance Concert is free and the community is cordially invited to attend.

The concert is one of several fine and performing arts events that showcase A&M International's growth in the arts arena. A Fine and Performing Arts Center is part of the $49.5 million Phase III expansion of the University.

For further information, please contact Leyendecker at 326-2640. University office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
