A&M International Holds Science Mini-Conference Saturday, Nov. 18

Texas A&M International University's College of Science and Technology will present a Research Mini-Conference on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Canseco Hall room 101 on the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

Faculty, students and alumni from the College of Science and Technology will offer brief presentations on research conducted in areas including biology, chemistry, health, mathematics, and genetics. Guest speakers from the Instituto Tecnologico de Nuevo Laredo are also scheduled to make presentations.

Community members who are interested in science and technology are invited to attend the free event.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. with refreshments and a welcome. Presentations by A&M International faculty, students and alumni begin at 9 a.m. The schedule is as follows: 9 a.m., "The Analysis of a Fire Ant Proteinase," Jeffrey Allen Huvar; 9:15 a.m., "Isolation and Analysis of Nuclear Proteins from SY5Y Cells. Searching for a Regulator of Menkes Gene," Valerie De La Paz; 9:30 a.m., "Gravitational Potential Theory: Structure and Dynamics of Earth and Planetary Interiors," Dr. Juan Homero Hinojosa; 9:45 a.m., "AID: Survival Analysis of Persons Testing HIV+," Dr. Goonatilake; 10 a.m., "Family Violence," Martha Treviño; 10:15 a.m., "Access to Health Care Issues in the Colonias," Martha Smith and Diane Burke; 10:30 a.m., Morning break; 10:45 a.m.; "Health Issues with Former Alcoholics," Vivian Garcia and Belva Gonzalez; 11:00 a.m., "Border Patrol and Health Promotion," Maria Hernandez, Robin McCauley, and Dr. Doris Rosenow; 11:15 a.m., "A Telecommunication to Build New Mexico's Rural Primary Care Network," Rose Saldivar and Lisa Sanford; 11:30 a.m., presentation by Antonio Carranza; 11:45 a.m., presentation by Anali Novoa-Barraza; and 12 noon, lunch break.

After the lunch break, speakers from the Instituto Tecnologico de Nuevo Laredo will make presentations at 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m.
