"Tesis," a European psychological thriller, will be screened at Texas A&M International University on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in Bullock Hall, room 101.

The screening was organized by Dr. Sean Chadwell, assistant professor of English, and Dr. William Nichols, assistant professor of Spanish, as part of the University's "Manifestations of 'Noir" Fall Film Series. It is free of charge and open to the public.

"Tesis" is a movie that explores the seamier side of movie making and is possessed of a finely regulated black humor. It is indicative of the kind of bold genre that is emerging in filmmaking from Spain.

The film is about a young attractive student, Angela, who is working on her graduate thesis about violence in the audio visual media. She accidently stumbles upon a series of strange crimes at her university and unfolds a conspiracy that involves the trafficking of pornographic films.

"Tesis," a foreign film that originates from Spain, is the winner of the grand prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver from the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film. It is a Spanish language film and will be screened with English subtitles.

The film, which was written and directed by Alejandro Amenabar, is unrated and stars Fele Martinez, Ana Torrent, Eduardo Noriega, Rosa Campillo, Xabier Elorriaga, Nieves Herranz, and Miguel Picazo.

Drs. Chadwell and Nichols will briefly introduce the film and profile its stylistic and thematic debt to 'Noir' before viewing. At the film's conclusion, an informal discussion will be held to answer questions and allow audience members to share their comments on the film.

The semester long series will conclude Thursday, November 30 with the screening of "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" (1982). The film will be presented at 7 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 101.
