New Chemistry Course on Tap for Spring at A&M International
If you're intrigued by environmental pollution and how science can work to solve a global problem, a new chemistry course this Spring at Texas A&M International University may interest you.
CHEM 4499-202: Processes of Biochemical and Photochemical Remediation, will focus on the processes of remediation that can remove pollutants from the environment. The course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:15 p.m. in Canseco Hall 215.
A glance at the day's headlines indicates that science must continue to aggressively seek ways to address the impact of pollution, said Dr. Mario Garcia-Rios, associate professor, department of natural sciences.
"The continued development of protocols designed to eliminate or remediate toxic chemicals from soil, water and air is crucial to ensure a healthy world for generations to come," said Dr. Garcia-Rios.
"This new course will survey current biochemical and photochemical procedures used to eliminate pollutants, as well as discuss trends for new and improved remediation methodologies," he explained.
The course requires a solid background in General Chemistry, Genetics, and Biochemistry and is open to Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science majors as well as to environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, microbiologists, environmental chemists, and all who wish to learn and contribute to this important topic.
