"4G Investments, Ltd. Endowed President's Scholarship" Created at A&M International

A new endowed scholarship has been established at Texas A&M International University to assist students pursuing degrees in business and international trade.

The new scholarship, to be known as the 4G Investments, Ltd. Endowed President's Scholarship Fund, was established through the generosity of the Eduardo A. Garza Family. Garza is also founder and chairman of the board for Uni-Trade Forwarding, L.C.

Annual gift installments of $5,000 over a period of five years, totaling $25,000, will be used to establish the new endowed fund.

Dr. Charles Jennett, A&M International president, said the University is honored to be home to the 4G Investments, Ltd. Endowed President's Scholarship. He commended the Garza family for their effort to help students realize dreams of higher education.

"This gift will brighten the future of our business students planning a career in Laredo, South Texas and beyond. We are most grateful to the Garza family for their support because community partnerships are crucial for the success of our students and our institution, " Jennett said.

Eduardo A. Garza said he and his family are proud to have an opportunity to invest in the future of the community's youth.

"We are honored to be able to assist students achieve their education goals at Texas' newest University. The students at A&M International are this community's future leaders. By contributing to the betterment of these future leaders, we contribute to the betterment of our community," Garza said.

Scholarships will be awarded to students attending A&M International beginning Fall 2001. Students selected to receive the 4G Investments, Ltd. Endowed President's Scholarship will be known as 4G Investments, Ltd. Presidential Scholars.

Scholarship funds will be used to cover the cost of tuition, books and academic fees of the recipient. The scholarship is renewable provided that the student continues to meet all academic qualifications. Although the scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in business, preferably in international trade, it may be awarded to a top student in the College of Business Administration should there be no qualified recipient majoring in the that discipline.

Students selected to receive President's Scholarships must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and scores of 1,000 in SAT or 22 in ACT. Entering freshmen must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member of their high school with their application. Continuing or transfer students must submit with their application a letter or recommendation from a professor who knows the student and can speak to their academic qualifications.
