Free Ballet Folklorico Workshop Scheduled at A&M International

Master folklorico dance teacher Pedro Serna will conduct a free workshop on "Mexican Folklorico from A to Z" at Texas A&M International University January 27 - 28.

The workshop will be held in the University's Kinesiology/Convocation Building, room 204 on Saturday, January 27 from 3 - 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 28 from 12 - 4 p.m.

Serna, a respected dance professional from Zacatecas, Mexico, will provide instruction on the basics of folkloric dances from eight regions of Mexico, including Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, and Distrito Federal (Mexico City).

The free two-day workshop is open to students who have at least one year of folklorico dance experience and are at least 15 years old. Admission is limited and all workshop participants must submit a workshop registration form to event coordinator Gabriela Mendoza-Garcia by 5 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Workshop registration forms may be obtained by calling Mendoza-Garcia, Dance Director of A&M International's Ballet Folklorico group, at 326-2280.

The workshop is sponsored by the University's Ballet Folklorico group with funding from the Texas Commission of the Arts and the City of Laredo.
