Those interested in combining travel and learning can now do so through a summer study abroad program to Italy and France offered at Texas A&M International University.

Jannet García, Office for International Programs director, said both undergraduate and graduate courses will be offered through study abroad programs in Rome, Italy and Marseille, France.

The first class, Italian Renaissance Themes (HIST 4390 undergraduate) and Problems of the Italian Renaissance (HIST 5310 graduate), will start in early February and close with a tour of Italy May 19-30. The group will tour historical sites relevant to class lectures such as St. Marks Square in Venice, Giotto's Bell Tower in Florence, St. Peter's Basillica, the Sistine Chapel in Rome and Pompeii.

Dr. Stanley Green, A&M International professor of history, will conduct the Italian Renaissance class.

The second class, International Business (BA 3320 undergraduate) and Special Business Issues in Europe or in France (BA 4399/5399 undergraduate and graduate), will start in early February with the travel portion being offered May 21 to June 8. The class will take place at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce Marseille Provence in Marseille, France and wil include visits to local businesses and to Nice and Monaco. Dr. Gregory Black, A&M International visiting assistant professor of marketing, will conduct the course.

García said the program cost for either course ranges between $2,000-$2,500, which includes roundtrip airfare, room and board, site visits, transportation, guides and entry fees. Those interested in enrolling must submit their applications by Jan. 24 to the Office for International Programs in Pellegrino Hall 312.

"These summer study abroad courses provide students the opportunity to travel and see for themselves what they have learned in class," García said, "This is an excellent chance for people to expand their horizons and get to know the world in a short period of time."

García said the Office for International Programs has other study abroad programs available through agreements with more than 20 higher education institutions and universities in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Mexico, Morocco, Paraguay, The Netherlands and Spain.
