Tickets Available for Donaldson Scholarship Fundraiser at A&M International March 26

Tickets are now available to attend a special scholarship fundraiser dinner at Texas A&M International University featuring longtime ABC News national correspondent Sam Donaldson.

Donaldson, one of the nation's most respected journalists, will inaugurate the University's new occasional series known as "Dinner With...A Benefit for Student Scholarships at A&M International," scheduled Monday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Tickets are available individually and as 10-person table seatings at various giving levels. They can be secured from the University's Office for Institutional Advancement, Killam Library 262, (326.2175) or at Foster's, 1004 Hillside (723-3653).

Individual tickets, at the "Reporter" level, are $100, while assigned tiered seating is also available in various giving levels: Editor, $1,000; Bureau Chief,$3,000 and Anchor, $5,000. The evening's seated dinner will be by Don Strange of Texas.

University president Charles Jennett said the new series will serve to generate important student scholarship funds.

"We are excited and honored that a journalist of Mr. Donaldson's caliber will inaugurate this event. Over 80% of our students qualify for financial assistance and the "Dinner With" series gives the community a means to provide student scholarship support while sharing in a very special evening," Dr. Jennett explained.

Donaldson is co-anchor of "20/20" and co-anchor with Cokie Roberts, of the ABC News Sunday morning broadcast, "This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts."

A 30-year news veteran and former Chief White House Correspondent, he was co-anchor, with Diane Sawyer of "Prime Time Live" since the program premiered in Aug. 1989. He has covered breaking news events, reported on a wide range of topics, and conducted scores of timely interviews with newsmakers for "Prime Time Live."

Born in El Paso, he received his Bachelor's degree from Texas Western College and did graduate work at the University of Southern California.

His broadcast career began at KRLD-TV in Dallas in 1959. He soon joined WTOP-TV in Washington , D.C. where he anchored the station's weekend news broadcasts, as well as produced and moderated a weekly interview program before joining ABC News in 1967.

Named 1988 "Broadcaster of the Year," by the National Press Foundation, The Washington Journalism Review named him the "Best Television White House Correspondent in the Business" in 1985 and the "Best Television Correspondent in the Business" in 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989.

Among his many awards are three Emmy Awards and a George Foster Peabody Award. His 1987 autobiography, Hold on Mr. President, was an international best-seller.
