University Students Place in Programmers Contest

Texas A&M International University students recently participated in the 15th Annual Glenda Anderson - Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Programming Contest and Symposium held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. One team of A&M International programmers, Karim Garza and Pedro "Pete" Saenz, placed second in the Web Design Competition.

Eight of the University's computer information systems students from the College of Business Administration attended the competition. 13 colleges and universities from Texas and Louisiana competed in the event.

Representing the University in Access Database design were Maribel Mata, Andy Gonzalez, Liliana Lopez, and Alladin Hall. Ten teams competed in the contest won by Central Texas College.

Joining Garza and Saenz in the Web Design competition were Robert Krocmal, SSG President; B.J. Everett, and Alladin Hall. 12 teams competed in the contest won by Hardin-Simmons University.

Representing the University in C++ competition were Krocmal and Saenz. 20 teams competed with Devry - Dallas placing first.

The University was represented in the Visual Basic contest by team members Everett, Garza, Gonzalez, and Lopez. The team of Everett and Garza won the regional contest at the AITP regional last fall. 15 teams competed in this section with Northwestern University winning.

Accompanying the University's programming team were Dr. Stephen Lunce, associate professor of information systems and SSG Advisor, and Jesus Carmona, instructor in computer information systems.
