Texas A&M International University has an eye to the future of teaching and hopes that a Saturday visit by 60 high school juniors and seniors from Brownsville's Homer Hanna High School will result in helping to attract more students to the teaching profession.

The visiting students are part of Homer Hanna High School's Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) program. Their visit is part of the College of Education's ongoing effort to attract and recruit qualified and interested candidates into the education profession and help to eliminate statewide teacher shortages.

The students will arrive on campus Saturday, March 3, about 9 a.m., remaining at the University until 4 p.m.

After registration and a welcome in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library's Great Room by Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Rosa Vida., students will tour the campus, enjoy lunch and participate in a series of breakout sessions.

During these sessions, College of Education faculty will meet with the students to talk about the different degrees and programs offered at A&M International. Representatives from the University's Admissions and Financial Aid offices will also be on hand to provide the TAFE students with college entrance information.

Additionally, students will also be treated to the colorful and musical side of A&M International as the University's third annual "Fiesta de Mariachi" is scheduled on the same day as the TAFE visit.
