Spike Lee's gritty street drama "Clockers" will be shown at Texas A&M International University on Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 118.

Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

Directed by Lee, the R-rated 1995 crime drama film is based on the 1993 riveting bestseller of the same name by Richard Price. The film has been acclaimed for its hyper-real quality that approaches a stylized documentary.

The film focuses on Strike, a young ambitious 'clocker' -- or drug dealer -- who works the streets of his New York housing project. Just as he is planning his exit from the dead-end of his crime life, another dealer is murdered in a fast-food restaurant and Strike becomes the leading suspect. The film stars Meki Phifer, Delroy Lindo, Harvey Keitel and John Turturro.

"Clockers" is the second of a 12-film "Contemporary American Auteurs" Spring Film Series organized by Dr. Sean Chadwell, assistant professor of English, and Dr. William Nichols, assistant professor of Spanish.

Drs. Chadwell and Nichols introduce each film in the Series and profile the film's director. After each film, they lead an informal forum for viewers to share their opinions and impressions of the films.

The remaining films in the Series, including films by David Lynch, Ethan and Joel Coen, and John Sayle, are as follows:

March 20 - "Eraserhead" (1977)

March 27 - "Wild At Heart" (1990)

April 3 - "Blood Simple" (1984)

April 10 - "The Big Lebowski" (1998)

April 17 - "Brother from Another Planet" (1984)

April 24 - "Men with Guns" (1997)

The Spring Film Series is held on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 118.
