A&M International Prof Elected VP of Prestigious Decision Sciences Institute

Texas A&M International University associate professor of information systems Dr. Stephen E. Lunce has been elected vice president of the prestigious Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).

Dr. Lunce was notified of his election by Terry Rakes, chair of the 1999-2000 nominating committee. In his notification of Lunce's election, Rakes noted "your election is a clear indication of the respect your colleagues have for you and their confidence in your abilities to help guide DSI as we move toward fulfilling our potential as the premier professional organization for business faculty."

As a vice president of DSI, Lunce will serve on the board of directors of the institute for the duration of his two-year term, beginning in April. He will represent the southwest region which includes colleges and universities in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico.

The DSI is an interdisciplinary, international organization dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of education and research about business decisions. The Institute promotes excellence in teaching and scholarship and seeks to serve current and future developmental needs of doctoral students, faculty and academic administrators.

DSI grew from an independent national non-profit educational organization first established in 1968. Membership now totals over 3,500 and the group's journal, Decision Sciences, first published in 1970, is now recognized as a premier publication among practitioners and academicians.

Lunce joined A&M International in 1992 after having served as adjunct professor of management information systems (M.I.S.) at the University of Dallas.

He earned his Ph.D. in business administration with a major in Information Systems, and minors in Computer Science and Research Methods from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition, he holds both an M.B.A. with a concentration in M.I.S., and a B.A. in history from The University of Dallas. He is a Certified Computing Professional and a Certified Disaster Recovery Planner.

His primary fields of research include those in managerial issues concerning disaster recovery and contingency planing, deployment of technology in developing economies, A.I. applications in managerial decision-making, expertise and expert identifications, innovations in M.I.S. Education, strategic utilization of information and historical perspectives of M.I.S.

His writings include over 60 publications in refereed journals, books, book chapters, refereed proceedings, and other publications. His works have appeared in publications such as A.I. and Society, Industrial Management and Data Systems, Journal of Information Systems Education, The International Journal of Business Disciplines and Journal of Information Science and Technology.

A prolific writer, Lunce has written on topics such as neural network applications, information technology in Mexican manufacturing firms, telecommuting - the new generation office environment, management issues in distance education program development and assimilation of information technology in the maquiladoras.
