Texas A&M International University's first induction ceremony for Psi Chi, the national honor society in Psychology, will be held Monday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

The event will formally establish a chapter of the honor society at A&M International.

Dr. Terence Hannigan, Psi Chi sponsor and director of Student Counseling and Disabled Student Services, said 11 charter members will be inducted at the ceremony. All are either psychology majors or minors. The students have also met rigorous academic standards including a 3.0 (Grade Point Average) in psychology and overall coursework.

"These students are also in the top 35 percent of their class," he said, "Membership in Psi Chi is a distinction that will be beneficial to students who plan to continue studies at the graduate level and who plan to work in occupations where psychological skills are needed."

Psi Chi plans to continue participating in various community service projects and research activities, with a goal of presenting research findings at Psi Chi regional and national conferences, he added.

For further information, please contact Hannigan at 326-2230, e-mail thannigan@tamiu.edu or visit offices located in Dr. F.M. Canseco Hall 312A. University office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
