A&M International's 'Dusty' Golf Tournament Swings for Dreams

Texas A&M International University's annual 'Dusty' Golf Tournament has helped students like Maria Isabel Cantu reach their higher education dreams through six years of events benefiting the University's General Scholarship Fund.

Cantu, a native of Uvalde, said scholarships have opened new doors to her future.

"Scholarships have made it possible for me to pursue a career in computer information systems," Cantu said.

Another student, John David Rodriguez, a native of Carrizo Springs, said scholarships will help him reach his goal of attending medical school.

Christopher Ramirez, a native of Laredo, thanked scholarship supporters for their generosity.

"I'm very fortunate to benefit from the scholarship support provided by donors," he said.

Also, Mike Herrera, a native of Laredo, said, scholarships have opened new opportunities for him.

"My scholarships were the first steps to making my dreams a reality," he said.

Likewise, Astrid Hinojosa, also of Laredo, said, "Thanks to the scholarship from A&M International, my education in social work is expanding my horizons."

This year's 6th Annual Tournament will feature a "Par-Tee" on Friday, April 27 from 5-9:30 p.m. at the Lake Casa Blanca Golf Course Clubhouse. The Par-Tee is designed to offer golfers and nongolfers a chance to support the Tournament and the A&M International General Scholarship Fund through skills contests, a silent auction and a reception.

The Tournament will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. A second tee-off is set at 1 p.m.
