A&M International Introduces New EMSAP Students

Texas A&M International University's College of Science and Technology, in partnership with The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, announced the introduction of five new students into the Early Medical School Acceptance Program (EMSAP) at a ceremony held Wednesday in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

The new high school students accepted into the program are J. Winnie Ettie Dollarhide (J. W. Nixon High School), Rocio Moya (Martin High School), Stephanie Sanchez (St. Augustine High School), Juan Hernandez (St. Augustine), and Thomas Martin (St. Augustine).

The EMSAP program offers outstanding high school senior students the opportunity to enhance their competitiveness to gain admission into medical school.

Students admitted to EMSAP will attend A&M International during the academic year and spend four summers at UTMB. During the senior year of their pre-medical training at A&M International, they will be invited to apply to the UTMB Medical School.

Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa, a local cardiologist and member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, was the guest speaker during the event.

Two A&M International alumni, Elisa Cuellar and Adriana Juarez, were also introduced as new medical students at UTMB this year.

Also attending were A&M International President Dr. Charles Jennett and Provost Ray Keck, along with Dr. Juan Homero Hinojosa, dean of A&M International's College of Science and Technology; Dr. Cecilia Romero, associate dean for Student Affairs and Admissions at the School of Medicine at UTMB-Galveston; Mary Treviño, A&M International associate vice president for Student Services; Joe Garcia, vice president for Finance and Administration; Michelle Alexander, vice president for Institutional Advancement; Dr. Mario Garcia Rios, A&M International EMSAP coordinator; and Sandra Garvock-Martinez, director of Special Programs for the Office of Student Affairs at UTMB-Galveston.
