Texas A&M International University's nationwide search for its first Athletic Director has been reduced to one candidate.

Dr. Jerry Thompson, chair of the Search Committee and Dean of the University's College of Arts and Sciences, said the Committee has forwarded its recommendation.

"The Search Committee was highly impressed by all four candidates. A recommendation has been forwarded to the Provost, Dr. Ray Keck, for review with president Jennett. Dr. Keck will soon be in contact with the candidate and extend an offer," Dr.Thompson said.

Thompson said the committee narrowed an initial pool of 30-plus candidates to four. All came to Laredo for an interview. He said the process has been smooth and will now move forward to the announcement of the University's first AD.

"The process is moving forward and we hope that the announcement regarding the appointment of the University's first Athletic Director can be made shortly," he said.

The new Athletic Director will be charged with developing the University athletic program from the ground up.
