First-year students who are college bound but haven't had a chance to take the ACT entrance exam can do so for free thanks to a Texas A&M International University program.

Dubbed "It's Time to ACT!," the initiative waives the usual $39 fee for the exam on a first-come, first-served basis. The ACT test offered is specific for Fall entry into A&M International. This is the third year that the program has been offered.

The free testing is scheduled Saturday, July 14 at 8:30 a.m. Interested students should call the University's Academic Testing Center at 326.2130 as space will be limited.

Veronica Gonzalez, director of enrollment management, said the free testings have proven popular with busy local and area students who are University-bound but haven't had a chance to take the exam.

"Some students have been unable to test earlier because of work conflicts, family responsibilities, scheduling difficulties, or financial concerns. This provides them with a free opportunity to take the admission exam with plenty of time for Fall entry into A&M International," Gonzalez explained.

A second testing may be scheduled later this summer, based on student demand, she noted.

Regular Fall Registration for the Fall Semester 2001 is scheduled Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. in the Kinesiology-Convocation Building. Students can choose from courses leading to 53 undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Classes begin Monday, Aug. 27. The last day for late registration is Aug. 31.

For registration information, contact the Office of the Registrar at 326.2250, visit offices in Killam Library168 or email to enroll@tamiu.edu.
