A Texas A&M International University graduate has recently received a prestigious scholarship that recognizes promising computer information systems students' professional personal and academic achievements.

Aladdin Hall, who earned his computer information systems degree in May, has received a $1,500 James Herriott Scholarship award from the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

The leading professional organization for members of the information systems profession, the AITP sponsors A&M International's student chapter.

Hall, who is currently employed as a staff assistant at A&M International's Office of the Registrar, said he is considering starting a master's degree in information systems at A&M International.

Hall said he is excited to receive the scholarship.

"I am excited and grateful. It's an honor to be a recipient of such a worthy scholarship and I am thankful to my family, friends and professors who have encouraged me to continue with my education," he said.

While at A&M International, Hall maintained a 3.1 overall grade point average and participated in numerous student clubs and organizations including the A&M International Ballet Folklórico, Student Systems Group, the Student Government Association, Electronic Commerce Association, Rotaract Club, Marketing Club, and the A&M International Dance Club.

Dr. Stephen Lunce, professor of information systems, said A&M International is proud to call Hall one of several A&M International students who have received the scholarship.

"AITP offers information systems students the opportunity to meet systems professionals while still pursuing their degrees; in addition, the association provides financial and other support for outstanding students," Dr. Lunce said, " Mr. Hall has done very well in his computer based information systems courses, and the receipt of this prestigious award speaks well for his promising future in the field. Mr. Hall is the fourth A&M International student to receive this competitive award, and thus continues an outstanding tradition of exemplary scholarship among the University's CIS majors."

Lunce added that A&M International and the College of Business Administration are proud of their AITP affiliation. Hall's award brings the total amount of Herriott scholarships received by business students since 1998 to the present to over $5,000.
