Ballet, Jazz Workshop Offered at A&M International Aug. 25

If you wish to study ballet or jazz dancing while keeping away from the summer heat, a workshop offered at Texas A&M International University could interest you.

A&M International, the City of Laredo and the Texas Commission on the Arts are sponsoring a Ballet/Jazz Workshop offered by renowned dancer, Scott Conway, Saturday, Aug. 25 at the University's Kinesiology/Convocation Building 204A. The Workshop is free and open to the public.

Workshop schedule includes a Jazz Master Class from 10 a.m. - noon, Repertoire, from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., and a Ballet Master Class from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Conway is originally from San Diego, Calif. He received his dance training at the California Ballet School, later becoming a company member dancing in numerous ballet classics. Upon receiving his BFA in musical theater directing and choreography from United States International University, Conway became a member of the Actors Equity Association, performing in dinner theaters, regional theaters, summer stock, several world tours and theme parks.

Having worked four years at Walt Disney World, Conway moved to San Antonio to open Sea World of Texas as manager of show productions and then opened Fiesta Texas, where he directs and choreographs the number one theme park show in the nation, Rockin' At Rockville High. He has won the Globe Award twice for best choreography in San Antonio.

Conway is sought after as both a judge and a master teacher for competitions and production companies. In 1991, he founded the Alamo City Dance Company, which performs the largest production of The Nutcracker in San Antonio every year with a cast of 140 featuring stars from the Bolshoi and New York City ballets.
