Texas A&M International University students will benefit from 29 new courses being offered this Fall. From the nitty-gritty of "Environmental Microbiology" to the joyful noise of "Applied Music for the Euphonium" (a brass instrument similar to the tuba) , a diverse range of coures is available.

The growing Music Department will be offering new applied music courses in seven instruments: cello, euphonium, guitar, piano, trombone, tuba, viola and voice. Additionally, a "Guitar Ensemble" class has been added and "Medieval and Renaissance Music" will debut.

Other courses of interest may include "Beginning Portuguese I", taught by Olga Verduzco, a native of Brazil. Offered from 6-7:15 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, this course will be of special interest to those interested in international trade. Spanish majors should take note, as they must take six hours in a second Romance language.

Pre-med and Nursing students may find "Elementary Latin I" a useful course and it is also recommended to any student who wishes to build their vocabulary, both in English and Spanish. Reynaldo Montemayor will teach two sections, one from 4:30-5:45 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and one from 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Anyone with an interest in art or who is planning a trip to Italy may consider Dr. Richard Wright's course, "Renaissance and Baroque Art." This class will be from 7:30-8:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. It would also qualify as an upper-level elective.
