Like Water for Chocolate Fourth Film in A&M International's Feasting on Light: 2001 Fall Film Festival

The fourth film for Texas A&M International University's Fall Film Festival Series: "Feasting on Light" is Like Water for Chocolate.The film will be shown Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Bullock Hall 101 and is free and open to the public.

This beautiful tale, told as an old family fable, documents a love story and the power of magic and cooking. Set in Mexico in the early part of the 20th century, the film is a feast for the soul. It is based on Laura Esquivel's magical realism novel and combines pain, beauty and comedy with tragedy.

Like Water for Chocolate won the 1992 Golden Ariel, the Mexican equivalent of the Academy Awards, and the cast nearly swept the Silver Ariels of the same year. It was also nominated for the 1993 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The film is shown in Spanish with English subtitles and is rated R for sexual content.

After the show, there will be 15 to 30 minutes of commentary and questions and answers, led by Series creators Dr. Sean M. Chadwell and Dr. William J. Nichols II, both assistant professors in the College of Arts and Humanities.
