Texas A&M International University representatives will bring information, answers and assistance to area high school students through classroom visits starting next week.

During the weeks of September 10 and 17, A&M International representatives will visit English IV classes to discuss the benefits of higher education and assist students in all aspects of the University's application process, from understanding financial aid forms to registering to take the SAT or ACT entrance exams.

Beginning in early October and continuing until the end of the semester, University representatives will be at each public high school campus twice a week for about two hours each visit. University representatives will explain the application process, academic testing, financial aid, concurent enrollment and the benefits of attending the University.

Ronnie González, director of Enrollment Management, explained that this is an important opportunity for area students because they can learn about higher education, ask questions one-on-one and get answers from qualified personnel.

"One of the most important things that students can learn about is financial aid. Many students believe that they cannot afford to go to college. After the process is explained, students are surprised at how affordable a bachelors degree is and that, for many students, the cost of attending the University is minimal," González said.

González explained that these visits provide a special opportunity to get ahead in the application process.

"Area students can get a head start on higher education with this program. They will have someone who can go through the application process, provide assistance with forms and give an in-depth description of the University and its programs," González said.

The representatives and their assignments are as follows:

Diedra Cantu -- Nixon

Armando Alvarado -- United South, Martin

Jerry Alva -- Cigarroa, Alexander

Gina De La Miyar -- United
