Area students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 60 universities, including Texas A&M International University and Laredo Community College, on Wednesday, September 26, during "Laredo College Night."

The event is free of charge and will be held on the A&M International campus in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building from 7 to 9 p.m. Students from Laredo, Hebbronville, Zapata, Cotulla, Crystal City, Carrizo Springs, Roma and Rio Grande City are all invited to discuss their educational future.

Verónica González, director of Enrollment Management and School Relations at A&M International, explained that the evening will allow students to investigate the variety of available choices and speak to representatives in person.

"Laredo College Night is a great opportunity for all area students. It's a chance to meet with over 60 college representatives, all in one location, ask questions and consider the options. Juniors can set goals for themselves after finding out about admission standards such as SAT/ACT scores or scholarship opportunities, and parents are encouraged to come and participate," González said.

She also said students might also get some unexpected help with the cost of college, as there will be a scholarship drawing from each local high school, including St. Augustine High School.

The event has been offered locally for over 25 years and annually alternates locations between LCC and A&M International. Universities expected to attend include University of Texas, Texas Tech, Princeton University, Northwood University, and St. Mary's University, among others. Between 800 to 1200 students are expected to participate.

For more information, students can contact their high school counselors. Information is also available from González at 326.2270, by visiting offices in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 158 or by email at enroll@tamiu.edu.

University office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
