Area high school counselors will be treated to an in-depth review of Texas A&M International University's potential role in students' future during the Sixth Counselors Update scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in Bullock Hall, 101.

The Counselors Update is held three times a year and provides counselors information on which of their students are attending A&M International and received scholarships. In addition, participants will receive information on new majors and programs offered at the University, legislative changes to higher education, and the results of the "Sophomore Survey," a study of high school sophomores' plans after graduation.

Veronica Gonzalez, director of the Office of Enrollment Management and School Relations, explained that the close contact between the University and high school counselors benefits students because counselors can give students up-to-date information and help students make choices for the future.

"Working with area high schools is extremely important to ensure that students receive the most current information. We hope to assist the counselors in preparing their students for the challenges and rewards of higher education," Gonzalez said..

In addition to the update, high school counselors will have the opportunity to meet University President Dr. Ray Keck.

About 60 counselors and high school administrators are expected to attend the event, Gonzalez said.

The Office of Enrollment Management will offer another Counselors Update in December, and a third in June, with a year-end update.
