A&M International Recipient of South Texas Higher Education Foundation Scholarship Award

Scholarship assistance for Texas A&M International University students will grow with the announcement of a $3,500 award from the South Texas Higher Education Foundation. The award is part of a record $148,000 in scholarship awards made by the STHEF statewide.

Rose Delgado, STHEF Board member and an A&M International graduate, presented the award to A&M International president Ray Keck on behalf of Arturo E.Guerra Jr., STHEF president.

In prepared comments Guerra said the scholarship awards are about helping students to reach their goals.

"It is very exciting to realize that through the Foundation's efforts students are able to start or continue to fulfill their goal of attaining a post-secondary education. This may be just the boost a student needs to take that next step," Guerra said.

In only its second year since its inception, the STHEF has awarded a total of $301,000. Founded in January, 2000, it is a non-profit corporation established to provided funding to other non-profit organizations and financial aid offices at South Texas colleges and universities which distribute the scholarship assistance to deserving students.

Primary donor to the STHEF is the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP), which also provides administrative and operational support.

In addition to A&M International, other south Texas colleges or universities receiving funding include the University of Texas -Pan American, University of Texas-Brownsville/Texas Southmost College, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas Careers and Laredo Community College.

Also receiving awards were San Antonio College, University of the Incarnate Word, University of Texas-San Antonio, North West Vista College, Palo Alto College, Austin Community College, University of Texas Health Science Center and Texas A&M University. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund also received an award.
