A&M International's Label New ACS Laredo Chapter President

Texas A&M International University's director of the new Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade has been named president of the American Cancer Society-Laredo Chapter.

Dr. Wayne Label, who joined A&M International last Fall, brings over 20 years of experience with and involvement in the ACS and has five primary goals for his presidency.

"I want to reestablish the awareness of the American Cancer Society here in Laredo; increase the number of volunteers helping ACS; increase the amount of patient services that ACS provides to the people of Laredo and raise money to help support these services and fund important research that hopes to eliminate cancer in the near future," Dr. Label said.

He is also co-chairing a planned ACS gala set for 2002 at the Laredo Country Club.

Label first became involved with the ACS in 1979 as a volunteer in fundraising and later as a treasurer for the San Diego Chapter. After a move to Hawaii, he was a member of the state board of directors and also served as treasurer. Upon relocating to Las Vegas, he served on the state board of directors for 8 years, serving as treasurer, chairman of the board and as a member of the ACS national task force for finance.

Label holds a doctorate and master's in accounting from the University of California-Los Angeles and a Bachelors degree from UC-Berkeley. A CPA, he has taught across the U.S. at universities including Georgetown University, University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of Hawaii. He also taught in Brazil and Bolivia.
