"Borderlands in Transition" Conference at A&M International

Texas A&M International University and the Texas State Historical Association will hold a conference entitled "Borderlands in Transition" on Friday and Saturday, November 9 and 10 in the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade, at the A&M International campus, room 116. Registration begins on Friday at 8:30 a.m.

The conference will examine complexities of borderland history and bring to light new research and ideas in the field. Researchers from around the country and Mexico have been invited to explore and discuss various topics, including the borderlands today, popular culture of the area, transformations in Laredo history and women as they appear in historical archives. Simultaneous Spanish/English translations will be available for all sessions.

Invited presenters will come from both near and far. Among many of the invited panelists and speakers are Drs. Stanley Green and Rachel Yvonne Cruz from Texas A&M International University, Dr. Elliott Young from Lewis and Clark University, Oregon, Dr. Joseph Spielberg Benítez from Michigan State University, Ramiro Flores Morales, director of the National Museum of Carbón, Mexico, and Santiago Roel García, ex-chancellor of the Mexican government.
