Texas A&M International University's new Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT) is spearheading efforts to benefit a Laredo child selected for assistance by the Make A Wish Foundation.

The CSWHT has erected a "Tree of Hope" in its lobby with ornaments representing donor gifts ranging from $2-$15. All monies collected will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.

The Foundation has selected a Laredo child, an 8-year-old girl, who has been diagnosed with life-threatening leukemia. The young girl's wish is to go to Disney World. The Foundation hopes to be able to secure $5,000 in donations in order to fulfill the wish request.

CSWHT associate director Virginia Vincent said the Center wanted to find a way for University employees to participate in the spirit of the holiday season.

"We're encouraging all of our University community: students, staff and faculty, and the community in general to join us in the holiday spirit and help to fulfill this child's special wish," Vincent explained.

The '"Tree of Hope" is located in the CSWHT lobby and will be decorated daily as donations are received. Deadline for donations is Wednesday, Dec. 5.
