Students who prefer not to wait in long lines to register for classes are encouraged to take advantage of early registration for the Spring 2002 semester at Texas A&M International University Nov. 5-16 in the Office of the Registrar, located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, Room 168.

María R. Rosillo, director of admissions, explained that returning students should begin the early registration process by seeing their faculty advisor. New transfer students should register early by appointment with advisors in the Office of the Registrar. All students, including first-time freshmen and transfer students are encouraged to attend Orientation Jan. 9, 2002.

Freshmen who need more information should contact the University's Office of Admissions, 326-2201.

Students transfering from Laredo Community College may apply or request information at the A&M International Outreach Office, located in LCC's University Hall, room 211 or by calling 796-1975.

Rosillo said no registration fees are due until January and that new exemptions allow visa holders and undocumented aliens to be charged the lower tuition rate under the House Bill 1403. House Bill 1403 gives undocumented aliens the opportunity to attend a university paying in-state tuition.

"The Spring semester provides a perfect opportunity for students to start their degree programs through numerous courses being offered in more than 54 undergraduate and graduate degrees. In addition, we encourage students to take advantage of the financial aid we have available on campus," Rosillo said.

Rosillo explained that also among available resources are the Mexican Tuition Waiver, which allows students from Mexico to pay in-state tuition, and the TEXAS Grant, awarded to students with financial need.

Students may obtain copies of Spring course schedules at the University or by calling the Office of Admissions at 326-2201. Spring course schedules are also available online at the University's Home Page, http://www.tamiu.edu.
