If you would like to enjoy a night of rhythm and visual splendor while helping the spouses and children of the firemen who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attack, you are invited to Texas A&M International University's Fall Dance Concert Friday, Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building.

The annual concert will feature members of the A&M International Dance Performance Troupe and Classic Spanish Ballet, directed by Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance. Guest artists will include the Vidal M. Treviño Magnet School Dancers, directed by Cheryl Kirkpatrick and students from Los Obispos Middle School, directed by Gladys Cárdenas.

The event is open to the public and admission will be accepted by donation, with the proceeds sent to the Fireman's Fund.

"This event will be a perfect opportunity for people to assist the families of those who have been devastated by the recent attack," Leyendecker said, "The concert will include various dance styles like ballet, jazz, merengue, tango, precision and flamenco."

Besides A&M International and the A&M International Dance Club, sponsors of this year's event include the City of Laredo, Webb County, Texas Commission on the Arts and the Women's City Club.

The concert is one of several fine and performing arts events that showcase A&M International's growth in the arts arena. The Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, projected for an early 2003 move-in, is the most complex and impressive building in the University's $49.5 million Phase III expansion.

The Center will be approximately 88,000 square-feet in size and will include rehearsal and performance spaces, classrooms, theaters, exhibit areas and a music hall.

For further information, please contact Leyendecker at 326-2640. University office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
