Research can be a daunting task, whether one feels overwhelmed with information or completely lost without a starting point. Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library can help. Research Help Sessions are available for anyone interested in learning more effective and efficient research methods.

A Killam librarian conducts the sessions every day through November 4 at 4 p.m. and every day from Monday, November 5 to Sunday, November 11 at noon. Sessions are open to the public and begin at the reference desk. Individual times can also be scheduled with John Maxstadt, head of public services at Killam Library.

Maxstadt explained that the sessions would address a researcher's specific needs of the moment, and also help them in future projects.

"We will begin by asking the attendees what projects they're working on and what stage they are at. Once we have ascertained the needs of the attendees, we'll introduce them hands-on to the resources and demonstrate the techniques they will need," said Maxstadt.

He said that these new sessions were different from the typical library instruction class because they address the specific and immediate research needs of the attendees.

"We're always looking for ways to expand the library instruction program and reach students whose instructors don't bring them in for course-related sessions. The Student Library Committee we put together last year suggested this more open-ended approach as a way to interest more students. These sessions will be more intimate and tailored to the needs of the individual student or researcher," said Maxstadt.

For more information, please contact John Maxstadt at 326.2116, call the library reference desk at 326.2138, or email researchhelp@tamiu.edu. Killam Library regular hours are Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 12 to 8 p.m.
