International Business and Trade Subject of Workshop at A&M International

In a city that is known for its high volume of international trade, area businesses need information to keep them competitive and look for new avenues to gain market share.

Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library will assist community members by offering a free workshop entitled "International Business/Trade" at 6 p.m. on January 31 in the Killam Library, room 206.

This targeted workshop will help those interested in mining information on international trade and business learn ways to search for data in the Killam Library, including studies, reports, statistics, regulations and laws.

Joshua Been, government information librarian, will help participants learn the secrets to securing information which will keep them up to date and ahead of the competition.

The Killam Library is a federal depository library that stores government-compiled information and statistics in both paper and electronic formats. These documents are available for all to use. The government documents collection can help an existing business expand its operations or provide vital information to someone with a business idea.

Been, who has 2 1/2 years of experience with government documents, said the hundreds of documents available in Killam Library can be extremely valuable, as long as one knows how to find it.

" All of these items can be of use to area residents involved or interested in international business and trade. Without help, the amount of information can be overwhelming, but it's well worth the effort to learn how to use it," said Been.

This workshop is the first in a planned series. Future topics include Student Government Internships, Government Grants, Federal and State Laws and Environmentalism.

Killam Library hours are Monday -Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m, and Sunday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
