International Terrorism to be Topic of Conference at A&M International

Texas A&M International University's Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade (CSWHT), will hold a conference entitled "International Terrorism: Its Impact on the Global Economy" on Wednesday, February 6, 2002, beginning at 8 a.m.

The event is open to the public and tickets cost $65, and include lunch. Seating is limited and attendees should RSVP by calling 326.2820 by January 28, 2002.

Experts scheduled to appear are: William Newcomb, senior analyst, Federal Bureau of Intelligence; Gurdit Dhillon, regional director, U.S. Customs; Frank Asencio, special assistant to the director of counter-terrorism, U.S. State Department, and. Tom Wade, past president of the Laredo Transportation Association.

Dr. Peter Tarlow, lead consultant on terrorism at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, will be the keynote lunch speaker and Vicente Garza, survivor of the TWA flight 847 hijacking, will also participate in the afternoon workshops.

Dr. Wayne Label, director of CSWHT, said he was pleased to offer a distinguished panel of experts who will be able to provide insight on a topic that is of significant interest to many.

"The Center is becoming a focal point for the area. Our first roundtable had local experts. This time, we've expanded and have national experts coming to share their expertise. Soon, we will have experts from throughout the western hemisphere," said Label.

During the roundtable, the four panelists will have 15 to 20 minutes each to present their position on the issues. Label will then ask questions of the panel members, and the members can also ask questions of each other. After a short coffee break, the panel will address audience questions. Lunch will be served and keynote speaker Tarlow will address the audience. Afterwards, attendees can participate in one-hour workshops with the experts.
