Texas A&M International University students can now enjoy extended bus service from El Metro to the northeast Laredo campus.

El Metro is now providing almost 30 additional hours of service a week to the University, including a newly added Sunday schedule.

The newly added hours of service will cover a gap of non-service between the hours of 11:55 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Service will be continual from 7:00 a.m. until 9:55 p.m.

Joe Garcia, A&M International Vice president for Finance and Administration, said the expanded hours and services are in answer to student requests.

"Our student population is growing. Enrollment this semester is up 12.2% over last Spring. Our residential or on-campus population in University Village is also at capacity and many students have come to enjoy the convenience and services of El Metro to get to and from campus. Based on growing requests for additional service, we are funding this program with El Metro on a trial basis through May 5 to deliver these services," Garcia explained.

Saturday service has been extended until 7:05 p.m. and new service on Sunday is available from 12:55 p.m. until 7:05 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Bus service will be provided every hour.

Pick up on campus is currently at the East side of the campus behind Bob Bullock Hall. With the approaching opening of the University's new Student Center, the bus pick up site will be relocated to the front, or west side of the Center. An additional stop will be available in front of University Village.
