Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library has a new web address: http://library.tamiu.edu. The library's homepage can still be reached through the University's main page. Typing in the old URL will lead to a redirect page pointing to the new address.

Rodney Webb, director of the library, said that the library recently purchased a new server in order to offer electronic reserves in the future. The URL was changed in order to house the library's homepage on the library server instead of the campus server. He explained that the library staff was excited by this beginning step in increasing the services offered to the University community.

"We have a remarkable library for a University of this size. Currently, there are more than 100 research databases available through our website which give library users access to the text or citation of articles in almost 8,000 academic journals," said Webb, "In addition, subject area pages have informative descriptions, researched and written by Killam librarians, of the available resources including electronic databases, journals and major texts."

Webb said that most users would not be inconvenienced by the change in the web address.

"We've tried to make this switch as painless as possible. The University's main page links directly to our new web address and peoples' bookmarks will lead them to a redirect page which they can follow to our new web address. Once users reach the new site, they can easily bookmark the new address. The small inconvenience now will lead to greater convenience in the future, as the pilot electronic reserves program is scheduled to begin this summer, " he explained.

When fully implemented, the electronic reserves program will make it possible for participating professors to place reserve material on the web so that class members with appropriate passwords can view it from any computer with internet access.
