Fala Portugues? (Do you speak Portuguese?)

A new club open to the community at large is being formed at Texas A&M International University for those who speak one of the world's most dominant languages or those who have an interest in Portuguese language and culture.

Alaster A. Love, an A&M International graduate student who is currently enrolled in one of the University's Portuguese classes and has lived and worked in Brazil, is leading the club's formation.

"We understand that there are others in the community that share a love of Portuguese and we'd like to see if forming an informal club would be of interest. If they speak Portuguese, or if they're intrigued by the possibility of studying the language or learning about the culture, we welcome them," Love explained.

The group will hold its initial meeting on Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in Bullock Hall 219. Refreshments will be served.

The University has been offering courses in Portuguese for academic credit for the past two years. Olga Verduzco, a native of Brazil, leads the course offerings.

The University also has an informal French Club that meets for French speakers and those interested in French culture.
