Students at Texas A&M International University now have a new 'living room' to truly call their own in the multi-faceted, $17 million Student Center that opens doors this month.

Designed to become the community center of the University for students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests, the 99,213 gross square feet building houses various student services offices such as enrollment management, student life, student development, student health, pre-college programs, international programs, and career services.

Special features of the Center are the University's Barnes and Noble Bookstore operation and a food court with dining services provided by ARAMARK. Dining areas on both the first and second floors include more than 260 seats and encompass approximately 5,180 square feet.

Seven lecture halls totaling approximately 5,252 square feet and three conference rooms also form part of the Center.

Equipped for large congregations, the Center also includes offices for student organizations, a lobby information center, student study areas, coffee services, a ballroom capable of seating over 550 (for dining) or over 1,000 for lectures , a game room, quick copy center and a 188-seat auditorium.

Beginning this Fall, new student programming will start to offer special concerts, performances, exhibitions, conferences and lectures for students.

The Center, boasting an innovative and flexible facility capable of addressing present and future needs, is part of the University's Phase III construction. Coupled with the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade, scheduled for official dedication March 26, as well as the upcoming Fine Arts Complex, intramural athletic fields and new parking facilities, the University continues to strive to become the University of choice for Laredo, South Texas and beyond.
