On Friday, area students will wake to find that they have a chance to take a peek at a future that could still include going to class....as teachers.

Texas A&M International University's College of Education will host "Discover Teaching Day," beginning this Friday, April 5, at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Center.

High school students who are interested in a teaching career are invited to learn about teaching and visit the College of Education.

Jennifer Coronado, instructor at A&M International and organizer of the event, said more than 150 students are expected to attend. Professors from the college as well as partnership teachers from around the area will hold break-out sessions with groups of about 25 students on topics such as language arts, early childhood, and physical education.

Coronado said that students who are interested in teaching will find the day a fun, informative way to learn about the profession.

"Students can participate in hands-on, learner-centered innovative activities. For example, one of the presenters will discuss her success in using Harry Potter to teach skills in a fun, innovative way. In addition to the sessions with professors and area teachers, our own education students will have a mini-museum walk where they will show the projects they worked on this semester," said Coronado.
