"Finding Funding Sources," the first of two workshops about grants presented as a joint project between Texas A&M International University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library and the City of Laredo's Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center at the Laredo Public Library, will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the HEB Multipurpose Room at the Laredo Public Library.

Joshua Been, A&M International government information librarian, will co-present the workshops and said that anyone interested in funding a project or a dream should attend.

"The money is out there. By using the combined resources of our two libraries, attendees will be well equipped to seek funding from federal and state agencies, and even from private organizations," Been said.

Homero Vázquez, coordinator of the Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center, will also be a co-presenter and explained that the combination of the resources from both libraries will be a powerful tool for anyone interested in receiving grants.

"One of the resources we'll introduce at the workshop is the Foundation Center Search database. This one resource has information on more than 250,000 private foundations and corporations that give grant money," said Vázquez.

Vázquez also said that each workshop serves as one of the three required workshops for agencies receiving third party funding from the City of Laredo.

To register for the workshops, please contact the Laredo Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center at the Laredo Public Library at 795.2400, ext. 2255 or visit offices at 1120 East Calton Road.

A second workshop, entitled "Finding the Numbers," will be held at 2 p.m. on May 14, in the HEB Multipurpose Room at the Laredo Public Library. This second workshop will focus on locating and manipulating the data necessary for grant applications.
