TAMIU's Roadside Cinema Film Festival Concludes with 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' April 25

"Roadside Cinema," Texas A&M International University's Spring Film Festival's trip through road movies, concludes with "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." The film will be shown Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in Bullock Hall 101. The showing is free and open to the public.

"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998), is directed by Terry Gilliam, nominated for the 1998 Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm Award. Hunter S. Thompson's story about a trip through Nevada and a trip through the drug-impaired mind might leave one exhausted and ready to pull over at a rest stop.

Johnny Depp, as Raoul Duke, and Benicio Del Toro, as Oscar Zeta Acosta, stagger through Las Vegas, viewing the surreal landscape of America's playground through a hazy lens. Gilliam's film sense captures the texture of their trip and gives the audience a dizzying, explosive trip.

The film is rated R.

After the show, there will be 15 to 30 minutes of commentary and questions and answers, led by Dr. Sean M. Chadwell and Dr. William J. Nichols II, series creators and both assistant professors in the College of Arts and Humanities.

The Fall 2003 film festival will focus on movies within movies.
